Boy, this pregnancy has wiped me out and made me a bit lazy!! There are a couple days a week where I send Quinn to a little school while Millie is in school so that I can have some time for myself and get things done. Sewing is usually the first thing I think of, but I almost ALWAYS end up on the couch watching TV and eating brownies instead. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I was excited to sew this dress up, though. I actually made it a couple months ago! But I have not found a day where all the planets aligned for me to take pictures of myself and blog about it until now! It takes a lot, really, but I know that it only seems that way because I’m so dang tired all the time, lol! But to find that magic moment where I’ve showered, the dress is clean, the sun is shining AND I have the energy and thought to take pictures is a moment that is hard to come by. My sister keeps bugging me asking if I still blog, so I figured I should get off my tushie and GET TO IT!
Anyways, this kind of dress has become my pregnancy staple. I wear the other one all the dang time and this one too. This one especially feels like secret pajamas, and when you’re pregnant there is really nothing else you could ask for! I really should make at least another one, but the fact that I’ll only wear it for less than 3 more months is kind of keeping me from it.. I’m not planning on any more babies, so the time and effort of making something that will be worn for such a short time seems like it isn’t quite worth it.
Again, this is Megan Nielsen’s Cara maternity tee, altered to be a dress :)
This time, I wanted it to be sleeveless, so I cut away at where the sleeves would have attached to the dress and made it more suitable for the style. I put on the dress and just totally eyeballed where I wanted them to be, leaving a bit of seam allowance so I could just turn the edges over and used my coverstitch to hem them. If I make this sort of dress again, I’m going to treat the arm holes like I did the neck hole, where I take a strip of fabric at 85% the length of the hole and serge it on so it brings it in a little. As it stands, the arm holes gape a little bit, which is fine, but I won’t do it again :)
While I’m talking about things I’d fix, I guess I’ll mention that I keep thinking of shortening the length some. But then again, that lazy bug keeps biting me and I just end up scrunching it up instead, lol! The stretch on this dress is much more than the other one so it ended up below my knees where I would rather it just be above the knee… OH WELL!!
The fabric is Art Gallery Hello Bear in Knit. I really love Art Gallery fabrics, whether knit or woven. The feel of the fabric is so quality, they are totally one of my favorites!
Anyways, Millie was my photographer for the first time in a while, I guess if you don’t use the remote for your camera in a few months the battery dies? :( I’m glad she was here to help! I know this is a fuzzy picture and doesn’t at ALL show the details of the dress, but after Millie took it she said “You are so pretty, Mama”. <3<3<3 I have to put it in here just for myself and my own memory of her being the sweetest angel in the world. For some reason, no complement trumps your own kid’s :D
I should probably also add, for my own curiosity down the road, that I’m 29 weeks preggo in these pics. MAN, I FEEL HUGE!!
