I’m pretty excited about this dress, and Millie is TOTALLY excited. Halloween is one of this family’s favorite holidays, our kids are super into monsters and zombies and creepy crawlies. When Millie saw this fabric at The Cloth Pocket, she demanded I buy it for her!! It is Cotton + Steel Spellbound. She also made me buy the mustard colorway to make a dress for myself, which I have yet to do, but I better get my act together since Halloween is in less than a week!
She sketched out some things for me, all of them were A line dresses, and I was happy that I finally was going to sew up the Louisa Dress from Compagnie M. It has this sweet front pocket and a few different options.
I decided to use the side panel cut out version, which is meant for color blocking, but I thought it would be nice to just use some pretty trimmings around the seams while using the same fabric all around. The white trimming seemed to match the spider web doily bits perfectly so that is what I went for :)
I am well aware that Millie’s measurements put her in a size 5 in Compagnie M patterns, but I made the size 6 anyway. I wanted it to have a looser feel, plus since it is a seasonal dress, I wanted to guarantee she could wear it again next year! Knowing Millie though, she’ll be happy to wear a dress with spiders on it all year long :D
Everything went together super smoothly and I was able to sew this up in 2 days (even with lots of interruptions!) I was excited about making this and had fun through the whole process. I don’t use trimmings very often, but I always enjoy it when I do!
This dress is fully lined with a soft white cotton batiste that I had lying around so I know it is extremely comfortable to wear, and I love how polished it all looks, even from the inside. (sorry no pics, Millie won’t take it off lol!)
I wanted to put blood red buttons on it, but Millie insisted upon white to keep with the theme :) I love how opinionated she is about her clothes these days! This girl has style ;)
It is hilarious, Jake keeps thinking there are actual bugs on her and he keeps freaking out. This dress is for sure a winner!
I just realized another reason why this dress is awesome- Millie’s school doesn’t allow them to wear costumes for Halloween, but she could TOTALLY wear this and be ultra festive while not breaking any rules, YAY!!
