It has been a long time since Quinn was featured on my blog!!
We recently went on a family trip to Maui, and of COURSE I went to a fabric store there! Only one though- it is a small island and there aren’t many, plus we were super busy exploring hiking and beaching. But the very last day, my sister and I snuck off for a couple hours to get our jollies on at Fabric Mart. This place was awesome, so much stuff, SO much Hawaiian print fabric!! I bought loads.
I figured since Hawaiin shirts are a staple in Quinn’s wardrobe, it would be more than awesome to make him one from fabric that was actually Hawaiian, lol!! Of course, this shirt isn’t typical Hawaiian print.. but I couldn’t say no!! The mix of surfing sand and cars… It was a total no-brainer, I knew that Quinn would adore this fabric and the shirt it would become :)
AGAIN this is the O+S Sketchbook Shirt. This time I made the size 4. I have sewn this in every size available to me, but this will be my last :( I really adore this pattern, but I DO NOT adore the fact that the sizes are split from 6m-4 then 5-12. At $15.95 per pattern, I would expect to get all the dang sizes. I’m not about to pay $32 for one pattern. Ridiculous.
After all the sketchbook shirts I’ve sewn (here, here, here, here and here), this is actually the VERY FIRST where I took the time to topstitch the collar, crazy! Turns out I do like how it looks! Sometimes not being lazy turns out great :) Probably always, but please don’t tell me that haha!
Oh that poor little babe, he got whacked in the face with our huge heavy wooden swing in our back yard. I think he handled the pain pretty well and I’m super impressed he didn’t have any bruising beyond that cut under his eye!! Millie, on the other hand, has a bit of a black eye right now from banging her knee into her eyeball during gymnastics.. These kids, I swear!
Millie picked out these buttons. I was doubtful, but she has a bit of a strange attachment to buttons (and button aisles- when she was still in diapers she would take off her shoes and poop in the Joann’s button aisle EVERY single time we shopped there, which was a lot LOL!! I guess buttons just relax that girl) so I trusted her judgement! This time, luckily, we didn’t have to leave the house. I have a jar full of old buttons that I bought from a huge Ebay lot and I had her go through it and pick out 5 of the same buttons that she thought went with the shirt well :) Now that I see them on, I’m a fan!
I LOVE this picture, he was totally pouting and whining when I was swinging him, but as soon as Millie started pushing he couldn’t be happier! He sure loves that girl :) Or maybe she just pushes the swing higher and more intense ;)
I’m a little upset that I didn’t take the time to match the pattern to the button placket. After I sewed it all together, I realized how perfect it would have been to have the whole picture across the front. OH WELL! I didn’t really have much option, I used every bit of the fabric I bought- I got one yard and as much as I loved being at Fabric Mart, I was skimped a few inches of it with crooked cutting :/ I’m thinking that may have happened with the other cuts of fabric I bought too.
I am honestly amazed at how much I have to say about a shirt that I have now sewn SIX TIMES!! That must be some sort of record for me!! But I think I was just having fun making something for Quinn again :) And I’ve been getting excited about sewing again, which is awesome because I always feel SO MUCH BETTER when I take the time to sew. I don’t know why I was so lazy about it the past few months!! I’ll blame it on those crazy pregnancy hormones ;)
I really need to get started making things for this new baby to wear, but all the little dresses and outfits I love start at 12 months or even 18 months with the sizing.. Does anyone know of any adorable baby dress pattern that starts at 3 or 6 months?
