I’ve not had much sew-jo lately, mostly because I am feeling a little uninspired to sew for myself and not have the longevity in an outfit with this changing body.. I’ve been doing some quilting here and there, which is totally fun, but I really do get more out of garment sewing so I haven’t been feeling as excited. But then I realized.. DUHHHHH I have now THREE children to sew for!!!
I had been eyeing this Soleil Dress from Baste and Gather all last year, but since I was on this super obsession with sewing for myself, I never bought it.. Until earlier this week! I have been pretty tired of Millie’s wardrobe lately.. Time to fix that!
The pattern says that the size 6x requires 1 1/8 yards of 60″ fabric, but I was SO happy to eke it out of just 1 yard of this adorable purple butterfly fabric by Andover designed by Lizzy House that I won FOR FREE from Sewloft WAY back in October. Although, now that I’m researching for links, it looks like Sewloft USED to be Spitup and Stilletos, but is now Sadi & Sam because they no longer have women’s patterns.. a bit confusing, but there it is!! Anyways, I had won a bundle with five 1 yard cuts of cute awesome kid’s knit fabrics. The quality seems pretty great, I already made leggings for Millie with one of them which I never blogged about because I thought maybe a post about staple leggings would just be boring. But you know a knit has great stretch if it makes great leggings :)
This pattern came together super easily! I feel like it has been a long time since I made something quick and fun for Millie, and I know she loves the comfort of knit dresses and wears the dickens out of them. When she saw that I was making it for her, she got SO EXCITED and was like “MOMMY I LOVE THAT FABRIC!” lol! So I’m guessing this one will be worn to death, which is fantastic.
I had this nice white rib knit just hanging out in my stash, which was a fantastic choice for the edging.. There is hardly any left and it has me thinking I better head off to Hancocks to get some more before they officially close. I’m pretty sure my local Joanne’s doesn’t carry it.. Can I vent for a second about Hancocks? I was all excited to sign up for those coupon text messages they were doing, but it was only for deals like 10% off, which I find kind of worthless when Joanne’s always has 50% off coupons, and even my local shops often have 20% off.. And not only that, but those damn text messages were sent at like 6:30am!! Who decided that would be a grand time to send people messages about crap sales? So while I’m always sad when businesses go under, I am actually really happy to not get woken up before I need to anymore… End rant and back to the dress!
Actually, I have nothing really else to say about it, haha! Seriously, it was an easy sew and Millie adores it, which is awesome. I always love those little peek a boo backs so I can do a little tickling so it is a total win win for the both of us :) I know it is a tad big on her, I totally could have sewn a smaller size, but she was in school and I didn’t want to wait to measure her, so I just made the size I would have bought in a store. I have absolutely nothing against a looser dress that she can wear for a very long time before growing out of it!
Did you notice this awesome new
photo prop climbing dome? We got it for Quinn’s birthday last week. I’m sure the kids will have loads of fun on it and we will have loads of hospital bills because of it too, haha! Can you believe he is 3 years old already?? I can, 2 lasted FOREVER lol!!!
