The Long Awaited Lady Skater

Lady Skater

I’m pretty sure I’m the very last person who makes her own clothes to sew this dress. They are all over the place, I’ve been reading blogs with this pattern for forever. I’ve owned it for probably 2 years. The pattern is the Lady Skater by Kitschy Coo and I’m so happy I finally took the time to make it! What the heck was I waiting for??

Actually, the construction of this dress was SUPER easy and straightforward, the printing and taping and tracing took me way longer than that actual sewing! Since it is meant for knits, I just went ahead and cut out the size my measurements fell into with no alterations.

I’m not exactly sure what this fabric is, but it is not very stretchy. It has maybe a 10% stretch to it. I honestly can’t remember if I bought it at The Cloth Pocket or Stitch Lab here in Austin.. I know I got it during the last fabric shop hop and sometimes visiting all those stores in one day, fabric purchases can blend together! I only had 2 yards and managed to squeeze this out of it, thank goodness for 60″ bolts!

I used my serger 100% for this dress, with the exception of the hem, where I used a double needle on my regular machine. I kind of love how the hems are cuffed so you don’t have to worry about hemming those :)

Anyways, now that I have this one sewn up, there WILL FOR SURE be others. This was such a fun dress to make and it is super practical for when the weather starts cooling off… Speaking of, hello mother nature! I’m waiting patiently for you to at least be out of the 90’s!

Next time I think I’m going to attempt some kind of sway back alteration, as there are lots of wrinkles at my lower back. Also, I need to add some length to this puppy! It is totally okay when I’m standing up straight, but I am super afraid of quick gusts of wind and bending over! The world does not need a tush shot from me. This short one will be great with tights when it finally gets cool here thought :)

Anywho, now I know why this is such a popular pattern! It seems like it flatters everyone and it is SO EASY to put together! I have my next one all lined up (let’s be honest- it is only lined up in my mind) and I can’t wait to have a nice arsenal of lady skaters for the autumn weather! Hopefully I’ll have all my issues worked out and the next one will be perfect :D

I had to add this picture because Quinn destroys me with that little face <3<3<3

Have you sewn this up? Am I truly the last one? lol
