Womp, Womp

SOSMII2

I got an email last night from the girls of Sew Mama Sew informing me that I would not be making it on to the next round of the Super Online Sewing Match.

Of course, I’m super sad I’m not continuing on, but I’m also very proud of how far I came! I was grouped in with some seriously talented women and I’m honored to have been among them.

SOSM Sutton Blouse

I met some awesome people, got introduced to new blogs and learned some invaluable new-to-me sewing techniques.

Marianne Dress SOSM

I was introduced to three patterns I would have never sewn and I now have a blouse, a dress and a bag that I adore to show for it.

SOSM Caravan Tote

I poured my whole heart and soul into that bag and I can honestly say I’m very proud of it and will love using it. But sewing bags is totally foreign to me! I absolutely prefer making clothes!

So I guess now I can get back to being present to my family and not be totally obsessed with this for the rest of the summer! And that is actually great since I’m currently visiting my family in New Jersey and I would be in Colorado for the last round if I had made it that far. Now I can just relax and enjoy myself! I can also get back to all the summer sewing I had in the queue before all this started :D

I’ll be watching the next rounds and good luck to all the remaining girls!!

But for now, my sister and I are going to New York today for some fabric shopping- retail therapy!!

  1. It does suck, but at least we made it to round 3 and have some awesome things to show for it. I was also happy to have found you through this contest! Have fun shopping in NY!

    1. Oh thank you so much! I put so much effort into my bag and as much as I love it, it does feel great to see other people liked it too, whether or not it was good enough for the next round :)

  2. Congratulations on how far you came Michelle. I loved watching your progress, and reading about your creative approach to these challenges. But you’re right, time to spend the rest of the summer with your family, and make the things you want. Enjoy the shopping!

    1. Jersey? Hello from Princeton!!!

I, too am really glad to have connected with you through the contest and look forward to continuing to follow! You have such an infectious enthusiam and sense of humor in all your posts–love it! (and I really did love the bear bag:-)) Hope you’re having fun in the City today–Kristina

    2. Thank you so much! I definitely shopped away my broken heart, lol! This was such a fantastic thing to be a part of, but it really does feel good to be able to focus on my family again and enjoy the rest of my summer stress and worry free :)

  3. I definitely think they made a mistake by not keeping you for the next round. The idea to use your husbands artwork was very inspired and creative.

    1. Thank you so much! I am super proud of it :) so even if I didn’t get passed through to the next round I do have a fabulous new bag! And I’m the only one who really needs to like it, right?

  4. Well, you’ve conquered the bag making challenge which you may not have done if you didn’t enter, so now you can return to your first love of dressmaking feeling justifiably proud of yourself for getting so far and achieving so much:)

    1. Yes! I can’t wait to get back to sewing the dresses I have lined up in my queue! And I’m seriously proud of that bag, it is my new every day purse and I could not be happier with it :D

  5. I’m speechless….everything you made looks wonderful. The dresses and top were lovely—and well-made from the photos….but your handbag was absolutely exquisite! It was so professional looking. I’ll admit I haven’t looked at the other participants projects since the first week…but I can’t imagine how you were eliminated. I would have hated to be the judge of this competition. Congratulations on coming so far.

    1. Thank you so much! I was totally okay about being eliminated on the bag round since I was not that comfortable sewing one, but I am SO PROUD of that thing, I think it is awesome! I’m sure the judge’s jobs are only getting more and more difficult as the contest goes on.
