Bouncing Atom

When Jake and I were talking about having a second kid, we were throwing around some names that we could potentially use. He decided that since I had suggested Millie’s name, it was now his “turn” to name our baby and he was obsessed with naming our future child Atom. He thought it was awesome and epic and hilarious since when you say it out loud it sounds like Adam, but it would really be Atom and maybe he could grow up to be a scientist or something amazing along those lines. These were Jake’s thoughts.

So when we DID get pregnant, he was like “YES!! If it is a boy we will name him Atom!!”

I, of course, said HELL TO THE NO. That is silly and insane.

Jake never let up. He actually was trying to drill into my brain “Atom Danger” so that Danger could be his middle name, just like that saying. I thought that was just WAY too silly. Turns out more than 9 months later, Atom seemed more familiar to my brain than crazy, and I actually agreed to let it be his middle name. I was 4 days past my due date when we decided over dinner that this baby’s name was to be Quinn Atom. I went into labor the next day. I guess he liked his name and was ready to come into this world!

So anyways, I bought this fabric a few months ago and I knew I NEEDED it to make some pajamas for this boy. It really couldn’t get more perfect than little atoms floating around :) For some reason I held on to this fabric for a while before sewing it. I guess I had a particular pattern in my head by then realized I didn’t actually have enough yardage for that so I was just waiting for the right thing to pop into my mind.

Then last week I was like DUH. I’ll use the the pants of the original pajamas I wanted to use, which is this Kwik Sew pattern and I’ll just use my beloved O+S Raglan tee for the shirt!!

I honestly wasn’t sure if the combination of the woven with the knit was going to work, but it TOTALLY does and that makes me SO happy!! The knit I used was some awesome SUPER soft stuff that I bought from Joanne’s and I used some white ribbing for the neck. I’m honestly surprised at how easy this was to sew together. I was also a little worried about sewing the woven pocket onto the knit shirt, but I had zero issues. Must have been that awesome Pfaff built in walking foot action :) I’ve sewn these pants like 10 times, perhaps more. They are SO easy and fast and wonderful, seriously. This Kwik Sew pattern was incidentally the FIRST sewing pattern I ever made, so I do have a little soft spot for it!

This was such a fun little photo shoot. Quinn was being ADORABLE and running in circles around the bed then falling over backwards and then cracking up. My plan was to take a sweet picture of him sleeping wearing this, but like a ding dong I gave him both black beans and vanilla yogurt and he got it all over the outfit so I had to change him before bed :)

So there we have it. Quinny’s middle name is Atom and I’m kind of okay with it. Even though when he got his social security card in the mail it looked SO ridiculous written on a legal document, ha! OH boy, I hope he appreciates it when he grows up!

  1. OMG!!! My Maggie was almost Maggie Danger, or would have been if my husband had had his way. I was like, “hell no, we’ll name her Margaret Joy.” But we still call her “Danger” sometimes because birth certificate aside, Danger is that child’s middle name!

    1. No way!! That is hilarious! I have to admit though, Danger as a middle name for a girl is WAY more awesome than a boy. So unexpected and awesome! I still wouldn’t have let it happen, LOL! What is with husbands? haha

  2. Good decision to make it his middle name – the kids at school could have had fun with that one as a first name! He’s obviously VERY happy in front of the camera – what a cutie modelling those pyjamas!
