Remember how I said I had all the pieces cut out for a shirt I was planning on making for Quinn? Well I FINALLY went to Joanne’s and bought a TON of interfacing (that way I wouldn’t have this problem again). I won’t mention the other fabric I bought that was totally unnecessary lol. Anyways, I was finally able to finish my little project. Man UFO’s bother me, I just knew those cut up shirt pieces were upstairs mocking me, I had to make it and fast! lol :)
I know, I know. This is my 4th time sewing up the O+S Sketchbook shirt. My other ones are here here and here. There is something just SO GOOD about the way Quinny looks in them!! He looks like a total party boy ready to have a great time, all he needs is a baby (virgin) margarita lol! This time I sewed up a size 2 and didn’t alter anything about it. I usually shorten the sleeves but this time I really wanted it to be big and flowy. I also wanted to make sure he would still fit into it after a while :)
I’ve now sewn this so many times that I really don’t need the directions anymore. I’ll be honest though. Collared shirts aren’t my FAVORITE items to sew. They are so darn fiddly and for some reason I’m super lazy and like shortcuts. You’d think it was the hand sewing on the collar that puts me off, but you’d be wrong! I actually enjoy that part. Oddly enough, it is as simple as having to use interfacing. Working with interfacing is SO annoying, lol! It isn’t like it is hard or anything, it is just an extra step that I don’t fully enjoy. I DO, however, enjoy the HECK out of looking at Quinn when he is wearing them :D
I got this fabric from Chic Fabrics in NYC. I actually saw it there 2 trips ago and regretted NOT buying it, so when I went back I was desperately searching for it! I finally found it WAY behind hundreds of other bolts and made the owner get it for me, he was joking around about being annoyed at having to get it for me. The bolt was totally dusty back there and gross but I DON’T CARE! I love this fabric!! He actually claimed to have remembered my sister and me from the previous time, which I don’t know if I believe, but maybe we are super memorable? Who knows! Anyways, the super amazing part of this fabric? It is a mixture of cotton and silk, it is SO SUPER SOFT and it was only $5 a yard!!! I’m so angry at myself for not snatching some for myself! I don’t know what I would make with it, but it is SOOOO SOFT you don’t understand, I would like to live in the feeling of this fabric. I guess just making Quinn wear it all the time and then holding him is the closest I’ll get. I’ll take the extra snuggles though :)
I DO wish I had paid a little attention to the pattern when cutting it out. I kind of hate how the two front pieces are identical. The pocket throws that off a little, but certainly not enough. Hopefully I’m the only one who notices things like that.
I got these cute pearly yellow buttons at Joanne’s. Yes. I went to Joanne’s TWICE for this darn shirt. I wanted to use some color that would pop out in a coordinating way.. Turns out I’m actually almost done with my crazy button stash I had because I had nothing on hand at home that went well with the shirt. Looks like I need to peruse Ebay for some more.
Yeah, I know these pics are kind of grainy. We couldn’t find the camera charger anywhere, then Jake took the camera itself to work. So I was left with my phone to take pics. Then I didn’t even bother to edit them. Whatevers, you get what you get from me! I’m just happy to be finding time to sew and blog at all!
The night I finished this, the kids were in bed and Jake was still at work and I was like HMM I still have time for more sewing!! So I actually whipped something ELSE up that night before passing out! I’ll take some pics of that and blog about it later this week :) PEOPLE. The sewing bug has officially bit me again! I was feeling a bit uninspired, pretty much since summer due to a lack of time, but I’ve been super excited about it again! I have a ton of projects just waiting for me and I can’t wait! Now that the kids are falling asleep earlier I can actually work after they go to bed, something I’ve never been able to do! So exciting!
“Hey, ladies.. Need a ride?”
Gosh, this little noodle is handsome!
